The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls
THE tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveller hastens toward the town
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on the roofs and walls
But the sea, the sea in darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands,
Efface the footprints in the sands
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveller to the shore,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1880)
The reason why I choice this poem is because it's very interesting and it really makes you think about the sea. Also this poem is different because it talks about how water comes and goes but it's always the same wave. It just shows that whatever you do things will always come and go in life and we got to live with our choices. I guess the tides show people things might be good and things might be bad and we as people got to live threw the good and the bad. I learned from this poem that there will be times when you make new footprints and you got to be ready to handle both the good and not so good problems. This poem also states that people need to learn how to handle there own situations in life and grow on there mistakes and don't let the situation break you down. Even when you feel the worst never give up and give your 100% because that's the only way you can overcome the situation. In life nothing is easy you have to work hard to get anything you want and sometimes you don't achieve everything you want so that's when you push yourself harder.
In my opinion this poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was trying to tell people that you can't take anything for
granted and take it day by day. Everyday is a new day and each day you can achieve something you didn't from yerserday or even the day before. In (Line 11-13) Longfellow states that things won't change overnight and things will be the same until you accomplish what your goal was. Also each day will be up or down and you have to be ready to handle what will be thrown your way in life if not then you going to break down. But to me that's life because there will always be good times and bad times but that's when you have to be ready to overcome the situation. In the story where Longfellow talks about (Line 2-7) having darkness in the town and darkness settles on the roof and the walls. To me Longfellow trys to tell us that things won't get better if you trying to ingore your problems by moving somewhere all you doing is making it harder on yourself. You just got to face the situation and face it. I do agree with Longfellow because people tend to run away from there situation and it still continues to bother them in there new place where they move to.
